What’s happening?
Jockey Raul Silvera Olivera is back racing this Thursday at Mackay’s Ooralea racecourse, riding Answering in the Class 2 Handicap (1100m).
Why it Matters?
It’s his first race since a shoulder injury in February.
His return excites local fans, with both Silvera Olivera and Answering aiming for a strong comeback.

2. Halliday announces the top 100 wines for 2024
Selected by the Halliday Tasting Team, this year’s Top 100 list showcases a variety of Australian wines, spanning categories such as sparkling, white, and red wines.
The collection caters to every budget, with the addition of the Taster’s Pick, highlighting each team member’s favourite wine.
Sense of Taste, which exclusively released the launch, has stores across Brisbane and a strong online presence. It has made a selection of these wines available for purchase now.
Halliday Wine Companion will also hold tasting events in Melbourne on October 31 and in Sydney on November 7, offering the chance to sample the award-winning wines and meet the producers.

3. State champion for Mackay SHS
What happened?
The QRSS State Championships (Athletics), held in Brisbane from October 11-14, saw Mackay State High School students Adison (Year 12) and Oren (Year 9) achieve outstanding results, showcasing their athletic talent on a state level.
Why it Matters?
These achievements highlight the dedication and athletic prowess of our students, demonstrating their ability to compete at the highest level in Queensland.

3 state medals for Oren, including 1 GOLD in Long Jump
1 BRONZE medal for Adison in Triple Jump

Adison, a Year 12 student, was honoured to be named one of the captains of the Capricornia Track and Field Team.
He placed 4th in both High Jump and Long Jump and proudly secured a BRONZE medal in the Triple Jump.
Oren, in Year 9, returned home with three State Medals: BRONZE in the 4 x 100m Relay (13-15 years boys), BRONZE in Triple Jump, and GOLD in Long Jump, crowning him a State Champion!

Adison and Oren’s achievements have placed Mackay State High School on the map in state athletics, inspiring younger students to pursue their sporting goals.
